SIRIM unveils mobile water filtration system for flooded areas in Johor

KOTA TINGGI: SIRIM Bhd has developed a mobile water filtration system to be deployed in areas cut off from treated water supply due to floods, including Johor.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the innovation as a means to provide clean water to flood victims, especially at Temporary Relief Centres (PPS).

Additionally, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) has also been instructed to order 20 more units of the system for future use.

Earlier, Zahid witnessed the handover of three mobile filtration units by SIRIM to the Malaysian Civil Defence Force in Sungai Bang, Kota Tinggi.

The ceremony was conducted by SIRIM's President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, who presented the systems to the Civil Defence Force Commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed.

Ahmad Zahid further called on SIRIM to produce high-powered water pumps to address the perennial flood issues across the country, aiming to reduce reliance on imported water pumps.
