Toll waived on Feb 8, 9 in conjunction with Chinese New Year [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will waive toll payments for private vehicles on Feb 8 and 9 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the waiver, which would cost the government about RM42.99 million, is hoped to ease the burden of those returning to their hometown.

"The toll exemptions will be implemented on all highways starting from 12.01 am on Feb 8 and will end at 11.59pm on Feb 9.

"Toll exemptions will soon be extended to private vehicles at numerous toll plazas, with exceptions made for those situated at international borders, such as the Sultan Iskandar Building and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza in Johor," he said in a statement, today.

With the exemptions, he also urged road users to plan their travels accordingly and adhere to the recommended time travel advisory (TTA).

"Safety aspects and safe driving practices must also be taken into account to ensure that all users reach their destinations safely, making the celebration of Chinese New Year more meaningful with their loved ones.

"Users are also advised to take sufficient breaks and ensure that their Touch 'n Go card balances and eWallets are sufficient."

Meanwhile, road users can check traffic status via the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) social media platforms and contact them at 1-800-88-7752 for the latest traffic information or assistance.
