Woman mauled by neighbour's unleashed dogs

GEORGETOWN: A 49-year-old woman suffered multiple bites on various parts of her body in an attack by her neighbor's unleashed dogs, requiring surgery at a private hospital.

The incident occurred around 5pm yesterday as Cheah Hean Hoon was walking home, just a few meters from where the attack occurred.

She recounted how three dogs from the neighboring house charged at her, biting her before she could react.

"Unfortunately, no one was around at the time of the incident, and I was helpless against the dogs alone.

"As a result, my right hand was injured, and the flesh on both my left and right thighs was torn," she said when contacted today.

Cheah said she contacted her brother-in-law before being taken to a private hospital for treatment.

Due to the injuries she sustained, she had to be admitted to the ward for surgery, with her condition being closely monitored.

"Since tomorrow is Chinese New Year, the doctor allowed me to be discharged today, but I'll need to return to the hospital every 12 hours for injections over the next week.

"I am quite weak, and I may not be able to attend the 'makan besar' (reunion dinner) with my family tonight," she added.

Following that, a report was made by her brother-in-law at the Datuk Keramat police station yesterday regarding the incident, as they were dissatisfied with the dog owner's failure to leash the dogs.

Cheah said the owner also failed to repair a damaged fence, resulting in the pet dogs roaming freely outside the house area.

"This is not the first time; these dogs have bitten family members and several neighbors, but the owner refuses to take responsibility.

"People have confronted him, and arrogantly, he asked the public not to pass by his house.

"Imagine if the dogs were to attack children, the consequences would be even worse, and if there is still no action, I will make a police report again because it poses a threat to the residents."
