Another dog dies from suspected poisoning in George Town

GEORGE TOWN: Another dog has died from suspected poisoning despite calls by non-governmental organizations for stern action against the culprit to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

The latest incident, which happened at Lintang Lembah Permai this morning, was shared on the Facebook page of SAMA - Spay Adopt Manage Assist - Society.

SAMA also urged residents of Lembah Permai to check their closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to help identify the culprit.

"The killer needs to be caught and convicted.

"One more death...Ms Hailey (the name of the dog) in Lintang Lembah Permai 3 and 12 junction. Deepest condolences to the feeders and all who knew her.

"So so sad. She was loved and yet died in a horrific way. This is too much.

"Please report any sightings of people putting down any food, tablets or spraying weed killer or anything suspicious. The pain is too hard to bear," it said in the posting.

Officers from the Penang Veterinary Services Department have taken away the dog carcass.

The matter was also shared on IAPWA (International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals)'s Facebook page.

It added that the RM10,000 rewards offered by IAPWA Penang's anonymous supporter still stand.

In recent weeks, as many as 30 dogs have died due to suspected poisoning in Tanjung Bunga.

Various quarters have called on the authorities to act immediately to put a stop to this incident.
