City Hall issues closure notices following raid on chicken slaughterhouse

KUALA LUMPUR: City Hall issued closure notices following a raid on a chicken slaughterhouse in Kampung Cheras Baru.

In a statement, DBKL reported that during the operation conducted by the Enforcement Department and the Licensing and Business Development Department of DBKL, along with 21 personnel, processed chickens were found placed on dirty floors.

"Furthermore, remnants of blood, bones, and feathers were also found being discharged directly into the public drains. This slaughterhouse was also found to lack proper water treatment facilities, and the water used for cleaning the chickens was not regularly replaced.

"In addition to operating without a business license, all workers, consisting of foreign nationals, were found not to have received typhoid vaccinations and lacked food handler certificates," they said.

The location involved was operated by three different companies, operating in the same area.

DBKL issued three closure notices under the Local Food Licensing Regulations 28(1) with immediate effect.

"In addition, 3 fines were issued under Section 47(1)(d) of the 1974 Road, Drainage and Building Act, 2 fines under Section 23(3)(b), and 3 fines under Section 33(3) of the WPKL Food Licensing Regulations 2016 to the operators," they said.

DBKL will also refer this case to the Department of Islamic Affairs, the Department of Environment, and the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) for further action.
