Singaporean man found dead inside Penang ravine

GEORGE TOWN: A 29-year-old Singaporean man, who went missing after attending a wake last Friday, was found dead today.

His remains were found outside his car, which was believed to have plunged 45m deep into the ravine off Bukit Kukus here.

According to his friends, the victim, identified as Chew Wei Fung, had left the wake just before midnight on Friday.

He was chatting with his friends via the WeChat mobile application while on his way back home to Relau before going silent.

State Fire and Rescue Department northeast district zone one officer Muzamer Mohd Salleh said it received a call about 1pm today about a car accident.

He said when firemen arrived at the scene, they found a car inside the ravine.

"Checks found a man lying next to the car, possibly thrown off the vehicle after the accident. He was dead, with visible bodily injuries.

"We believe the accident happened several days ago and the car was just seen today."

Muzamer said Chew's body was surrendered to the police for further action.

Meanwhile, it was a poignant moment at the scene when Chew's mother was calling out to her son.

"Fung, mummy will take you back to Singapore. Fung, you heard me?

"Follow mummy back to Singapore. Mummy (will) bring you home. Fung!"
