SANDAKAN: A man was detained after he tried to use a fake identity card to apply for a replacement identity card on Tuesday.
The man was arrested by a National Registration Department (NRD) Sandakan branch officer when he appeared at the NRD counter to apply for a replacement identity card.
The Sabah State Registration Department, in a statement on Facebook, said NRD officers found that the identity card used by the man involved did not match the information in the department's database.
"Based on the authority given, the man involved was detained by NRD officers.
"The man was handed over to the police for further action," said the statement yesterday.
