Motorcyclist killed after crashing into stalled car in emergency lane

BATU PAHAT: A motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a stalled car in the emergency lane at Kilometre (KM) 116.9, on the North-South Expressway yesterday afternoon.

In the 3pm incident, the car driver had stopped to answer a phone call.

Acting Batu Pahat police chief Superintendent Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said prior to the incident, the victim, Mohammad Fared Zakaria, 35, was riding a motorcycle from Ayer Hitam towards Pagoh.

"Upon arriving at the location, a car was found stopped in the emergency lane because the driver wanted to answer a phone call.

"The victim did not have time to avoid and crashed into the car. The impact also caused severe head injuries and both arms were broken.

"The victim was taken to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at 7.50pm. The car driver was not injured," he said in a statement today.

Shahrulanuar said the police are still investigating and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He said the police request the public's cooperation to provide any information relating to the incident to assist in the investigation.
