Salary increase for civil servants before the end of this year: PM [NSTTV]

PERMATANG PAUH: The government will announce good news on civil servant salary increase before the end of this year, the prime minister said.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, at present, the government was looking at ways to raise the salary of civil servants, which have not been raised for a long time.

He said the matter was being looked into because he heard complaints from the public, especially civil servants.

"Recently, we gave RM2,000 to civil servants and it was supposed to be enough until Raya but I heard (complaints) and for that we gave another (RM500).

"In this year, we will also find ways to raise the salary of civil servants before (the end of the year).

"Why (salary) did not go up in 2020, did not go up in 2021 and did not go up in 2022 and want to wait for us to go up.

"That is okay because we hear complaints of the public (civil servants) and Alhamdulillah (agreement in the unity government) good news (on salary increase) we will announce in the next few months, no later than the Budget (2025)," he said in his speech at the Madani breaking of fast event at Pusat Islam Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Permatang Pauh here today.

Elaborating, Anwar asked the people to examine the 2025 Budget speech to see whether the announcement regarding the salary increase would be made then.

"I will not say when I will announce. Therefore, listen until the end (of the budget presentation)," he added.

On Jan 21, the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public Service (Cuepacs) president Datuk Dr Adnan Mat had reportedly said that the salary position of civil servants at present could not cover the burden of expenses following the increase in the cost of living.

As such, he had said the move to increase the salary of civil servants should be implemented immediately without having to wait for the implementation of the Public Service Remuneration System Study (SSPA).
