KUALA LUMPUR: Two paint factories in Taman Perindustrian Meru, Kapar were destroyed in a fire early this morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operation assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said they received an emergency call at 6.34am.
A total of 39 officers and personnel, along with equipment from various fire stations including Kapar, Bukit Jelutong, Andalas, Port Klang, Shah Alam, and Rawang, were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire already raging, with a significant portion of the factories engulfed in flames.
Firefighting operations are currently ongoing.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still under investigation.
It is also understood that chemicals from the factories have leaked into the drainage system, and the fire has also spread to a nearby school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Meru.
