KOTA KINABALU: Jetama Sdn Bhd, a water concessionaire company, has announced its plans to develop a large-scale solar power (LSS) project at the Babagon Dam in Penampang, marking the first floating solar power initiative in Sabah, Sabah First Info reported.
Jetama CEO Ahmad Naim Uddang said the project is expected to start soon and aims to generate 15 Megawatts (MW) of electricity. This follows the success of their initial solar project in Labuan, which is part of Jetama's mission to redefine water and energy.
"Our 10 MW LSS project in Labuan, operational since February, has already begun generating significant additional revenue for Jetama over a 21-year period.
"The new 15 MW project at Babagon Dam will reinforce Jetama's position as a leader in the renewable energy sector and aligns with the Sabah Maju Jaya development plan," Ahmad Naim said during Jetama's Hari Raya celebration event.
Also, Ahmad Naim disclosed that Jetama is innovating beyond renewable energy projects by converting scheduled waste sludge from water treatment plants into construction bricks, dubbed 'Jetama Eco-Brick.'
This initiative, developed in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), offers a holistic approach to managing scheduled waste, potentially saving Jetama nearly RM65 million in waste management costs.
