KKB by-election: Police assure robust security set-up for polling day

KUALA KUBU BARU: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has assured that robust security measures will be set up for the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election polling day.

He said that based on a briefing by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, the enforcement agency has been gearing up for the by-election since the seat was announced vacant.

"First, the police team's guarantee is that public safety of the people in Kuala Kubu Baharu will always be prioritised.

"The people, including voters, should not worry about going out to fulfil their responsibilities.

"The police have already carried out their duties and made preparations in the aspect of guaranteeing the safety of public order," he said after visiting Maktab PDRM, here, today.

Razarudin urged all parties to adhere to legal protocols for a smooth electoral process.

"We want the people to go out (and vote) without worrying about threats or their safety.

"Hopefully, the by-election will run smoothly on the date that was set (for polling day)," he said.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election was triggered by the death of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong on March 21 after battling cancer.

Lee, 58, had been the Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman under the Hulu Selangor Parliamentary constituency, since 2013.

The by-election is the seventh to be held after the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022.

The electoral roll for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election lists 40,226 voters, comprising 39,362 regular voters, 625 policemen, 238 armed forces personnel and their spouses, and one overseas absentee voter.
