Fadillah attends Jawi, MAIWP get-together event at Dataran Merdeka

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof joined guests at a get-together event held at Dataran Merdeka today.

The event was co-organised by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi), the Federal Territories (FT) Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), mosques, Friday prayer mosques in the FT, and various strategic partners.

Fadillah also distributed aid to orphans, tahfiz students, and the needy from around Kuala Lumpur.

Also in attendance were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, MAIWP chairman Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer, and Jawi director Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail.

The programme aimed to gather representatives from selected mosques and surau around the FT by offering various Raya dishes and distributing free food to people from all walks of life.

It was the fourth get-together since it was first held in 2017, with a total of 130 mosques and Friday prayers surau participating in the event this year.

Organisers targeted 30,000 guests, including tourists, at the event, which offered delicacies served at 160 stalls.

Guests were entertained with poem recitals, cultural performances, and a 'beautiful stall competition'.

Mohd Na'im stated that holding the event during the Syawal month allows people to connect with the management of mosques and surau in the FT. It is hoped that it will foster good relationships between people while promoting mosques as unity centers and introducing various unique Malaysian foods to foreign tourists.

"This programme also helps to nurture cooperation and the spirit of brotherhood among the representatives of mosques and instill a caring attitude towards the less fortunate while sharing various dishes in the name of harmony and unity," he said.
