KUALA LUMPUR: A group of graduates participating in a pre-convocation photoshoot were mistaken for local celebrities by tourists, who eagerly posed for photos with them, much to the amusement of netizens.
In a viral TikTok clip shared by @nrl_.izzati, tourists are seen lining up to take pictures with the graduates, believing them to be famous, while others capture the moment at Dataran Merdeka, creating a lighthearted scene.
Both the tourists and graduates shared smiles as they posed for the photos, unaware that the 'celebrities' were simply ordinary graduates enjoying their moment.
The caption humorously explains the tourists' perspective, assuming someone is famous when, in reality, they were just conducting a photoshoot, highlighting how the graduates felt like celebrities for a brief moment.
The video has garnered over one million views and 123,000 likes, with netizens sharing in the amusement of the situation.
User @izkk05 said that the tourists must have thought the graduates were "like the royal guards in England (Buckingham Palace)", while @ans_1204 suggested they mistook the graduation robes for "traditional Malaysian clothes".
Other netizens shared similar experiences of being mistaken for celebrities, with @materialgirl5513 commenting, "I had a school trip wearing the pink 'puteri islam' uniforms, and even tourists took pictures of us".
