PH, PN candidates visit Kuala Kubu Baharu drowning victims' families

KUALA KUBU BAHRU: The by-election candidates from Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional today met with the family of victims in a drowning case in Batang Kali.

Upon receiving the distressing news, both candidates promptly arrived at the forensic unit of the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hospital to offer their condolences.

PH candidate Pang Sock Tao, who arrived at 4.55pm, spent about 15 minutes with the family of a 41-year-old man who drowned while attempting to save his daughter who slipped into Sungai Jeram Ngenjur in Batang Kali here.

The incident also led to his son drowning after he jumped into the river.

Pang expressed her sympathies to the bereaved family before departing at 5.10 pm for another campaign event.

Meanwhile, PN candidate Khairul Azhari Saut arrived at 5.30 pm at the forensic unit to offer his support for the family's loss.

The victim's wife, known only as Azimah, was also seen at the hospital surrounded by relatives.

It is understood others from her extended family were travelling from Kuantan to be with her.

There was a heavy presence of media personnel near the hospital's forensic unit.

It was earlier reported that a swimming outing for a 41-year-old man and his two children ended in tragedy after they were found drowned in a river near Jalan Genting Lama - Batang Kali today.

The bodies of the man and his two children, aged between six and nine, were all found at 1.35pm about 30m from the spot where they were last seen.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said a 12-member team was deployed to the scene after they were alerted to the incident at 1.09pm.

The team comprised members from the Kuala Kubu Baharu Fire and Rescue Station.

Assistance was also provided by the Water Rescue Unit of the Shah Alam Fire and Rescue Station and the Port Klang Fire and Rescue Station.
