Cops record Raub MP's statement for obstructing public servants

RAUB: Raub Member of Parliament Chow Yu Hui and Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) chairman Wilson Chang have provided their statements to the police yesterday regarding allegations of obstructing public servants from discharging their duties during an operation at Sungai Ruan near here on April 30.

Samka, in a statement today, said both individuals had been called for questioning under Section 186 of the Penal Code for preventing civil servants from carrying out their duties.

"Several Samka committee members and farmers had accompanied them to the police station yesterday, The process was completed within an hour and 30 minutes," read the statement.

Meanwhile, Chow said they both had given full cooperation to the police and hoped that the farmers would remain patient during these challenging times while Samka's legal team was actively managing their appeal.

He also urged the Pahang government to show consideration by temporarily halting all enforcement actions against the farms.

On May 3, Raub police had summoned eight farmers to have their statements recorded under Section 186 of the Penal Code.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said 20 individuals including Chow would be called up for questioning for allegedly obstructing a Pahang enforcement unit team from discharging their duties at the durian plantation on April 30.

He said those called-in for questioning had allegedly gathered on the main road when "Ops Sekat" was being carried out against illegal Musang King farming in the Gunung Benom forest reserve.

The enforcement action was initiated after the Kuantan High Court rejected a judicial review application by 186 durian farmers in Raub on April 24 over an eviction notice served by the Pahang government in 2020.
