Civil servants reminded not to make public statements, including on socmed - JPA

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) – All civil servants are reminded not to make any public statements, including on social media, unless given the authority or mandate by their ministries or departments.

In a post on the Public Services Department's (JPA) Facebook page, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar stated that the reminder was issued under the 2024 Prime Minister's Department's administrative meeting.

"If found guilty and in violation of any regulation in effect, disciplinary action can be taken against the civil servant," he said in the post, which included information explaining that civil servants cannot make public statements that harm the government's policies, plans, or decisions on any issue, nor embarrass or discredit the government, either verbally or in writing.

The ban is clearly outlined under Regulation 19(1) and 19(2) of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.
