SPM results to be released on May 27 as announced, says Fadhlina

NIBONG TEBAL: The results of the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination will be released on May 27 as announced, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said today.

She said there would be no change to the date despite calls for it to be released on May 23, four days earlier than scheduled, in view of the school holidays.

Speaking to newsmen at SMK Saujana Indah here, Fadhlina said the ministry had listened to all views on the matter, more so when it concerned teachers.

"But I want to stress that we will keep the date announced yesterday on May 27. So, for teachers who have planned to go on holiday, no problem.

"We will ensure that students can obtain their results online or through SMS. For students with no access to the Internet, they can get their results in any school nearest to them. The school administrators will handle it.

"This is why we are giving three weeks to manage all this. Engagement sessions will be held soon to ensure no issues on May 27," she said.

Yesterday, the ministry announced that results of the 2023 SPM examination would be released on May 27.

The ministry, in a statement, said students could check their results at their respective schools from 10am onwards.

As for private candidates, their SPM examination results would be sent to them by post or they could contact the state Education Department where they registered for the examination.

The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) had urged the ministry to release the results on May 23, four days earlier than scheduled, in view of the school holidays.

It said this would allow teachers to go for their break from May 24 to June 2 without the stress of waiting for the results.

Fadhlina said what was important was to ensure that students had ample time to make post-exam preparations, particularly applications to public higher-learning institutions for the coming academic session.

"This is why we are sticking to May 27. God willing (Insya Allah), all students will excel and teachers can enjoy their break," she added.
