KUALA KUBU BAHARU: The Perikatan Nasional (PN) main operations room in Bandar Baru Batang Kali exudes a solemn air, devoid of the usual buzz of party supporters.
Checked by the New Straits Times as of 8.00pm, the top leadership of PN remains absent, with no large screen in sight to illuminate the unfolding election result.
Only a few media members are present here, and it's understood that access to the party's operations room is restricted.
Besides the bad weather here, PN candidate, Khairul Azhari Saut is also lagging far behind in the by-election unofficial results released so far.
Pakatan Harapan's Pang Sock Tao is currently leading the contest in the state constituency.
As of 8.00pm today, Pang has obtained 12,733 votes in the four-cornered battle for the by-election.
Meanwhile Khairul Azhari Saut polled 9,066.
Coming in third place is independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin with 170 votes.
Hafizah Zainudin of Parti Rakyat Malaysia received 127 votes.
Voters at Kuala Kubu Baharu cast their ballots as early as 8am today.
The by-election sees a four-cornered fight involving Pang Sock Tao (Pakatan Harapan), Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and Nyau Ke Xin (independent).
It was called due to the death of the incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 from cancer.
