Singaporean comedian's Malaysian show scrapped over 2018 jokes on 3R

PETALING JAYA: Singaporean comedian, Sharul Channa's performance in Malaysia has been scrapped after the Communications Ministry cancelled her work visa.

This comes after multiple police reports were lodged against Sharul over a 2018 video in which she touched on issues of race, religion, and royalty (3R).

"This was extremely unexpected and we had applied for and received all necessary permits and approvals a week before starting ticket sales," said Phoon Chi Ho, the chief executive of Laugh Labs Entertainment which is organising the event Sharul was scheduled to perform in.

Phoon said they tried to appeal but were informed that Sharul would not be able to perform at the Just Joking stand-up comedy show this weekend.

She said the show this weekend will go on tonight and those who bought tickets can opt for a refund.

Meanwhile, Sharul in an Instagram post, said she was disappointed that her work visa was cancelled even though she gave her assurance that her show here would not touch on 3R issues.
