#SHOWBIZ: Malaysian comedian Ronnie Chieng wins Emmy

KUALA LUMPUR: US-based Malaysian comedian and actor Ronnie Chieng has won an Emmy through his work on The Daily Show.

The long-running programme won the Best Talk Series category at the 76th Emmy Awards held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, USA, on Sunday.

Chieng, 38, has been part of The Daily Show since 2015.

In an Instagram post yesterday, he wrote: "I won an Emmy last night with @thedailyshow. Thank you to Jon Stewart and every single person on the show."

"I'm never not in awe of the sheer talent in that building. And thank you to Trevor Noah for rescuing me from Australia.

"And to my family and my wife Hannah for always supporting me," he added.

The Johor Bahru-born artiste also dedicated his win to his beloved grandmother who recently passed away.

"My beloved grandmother passed away in Malaysia the morning of the Emmys, so I would like to dedicate this to her for taking care of me and loving me.

"And for her hopes and best wishes for me. Here's to dreaming far-fetched dreams for our elders. Love you Po Po," he wrote.
