LANGKAWI: The government has allocated RM300 million to award federal road maintenance projects to small-scale Bumiputera contractors this year.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said out of the total, RM200 million involves 336 projects to be offered to contracts in Peninsular Malaysia and the remaining RM100 million to be awarded to 122 projects in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
"The works will be offered to G1 to G4 grade contractors though balloting process with the objective to help them build their business capacity.
"We believe this allocation from the Finance Ministry will help small-scale Bumiputera contractors to generate revenue and survive," he told reporters after attending a balloting ceremony for federal road maintenance projects under the 2024 Budget for small-scale Bumiputera contractors at Langkawi Works Department office here today.
He said the balloting process involved RM26.98 million allocation for 45 federal road maintenance projects in Kedah, Perlis and Penang this year.
"The ministry will monitor the work quality and performance of the contractors for future projects evaluation," he said.
Present were the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad, Kedah Public Works Department director Mohd Fisal Ismail and THB Maintenance Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Seri Hasnul Rabiain Ismail.
