[UPDATED] Let authorities probe into contract awarded to firm linked to minister's husband, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he would leave it to the relevant authorities to investigate the awarding of a contract to Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd, a firm linked to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh's husband.

"If there's a report, let the authorities investigate.

"It should be investigated in a transparent manner," he told reporters after attending the Global Forum on Islamic Economics and Finance (GFIEF) here today.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had yesterday said there was no issue in the awarding of a contract to the company.

Prior to that, the Selangor government had defended the appointment of Asia Mobility Technologies for its Selangor Mobility initiative.

Selangor Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han had said it was one of two companies selected for the demand responsive transit (DRT) pilot project, apart from Badan Bas Coach Sdn Bhd.

He had said the selection of the companies for the project had been approved by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

There were allegations of preferential treatment in the project's tender process, after it was revealed that Yeoh's husband Ramachandran Muniandy was Asia Mobilities chief executive officer.
