ARAU: The New Straits Times Press (NSTP) group managing editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman shared an overview of managing official social media platforms with some 200 academics and students at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) near here.
Prior to the session, Zaini paid a courtesy call to UniMAP Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Zaliman Sauli.
The inaugural training course was organised by UniMAP's Corporate Communications Center.
Zaini spent two hours sharing his experience of more than three decades as a journalist, and later as an editor in managing news content for social media platforms.
He said it was important for UniMAP to maintain its brand and image if it wanted to create awareness about the university's role in the country's technological development.
Zaini also encouraged UniMAP lecturers and staff members to publicise their research on mainstream media and social media platforms.
UniMAP Corporate Communications Center director Associate Professor Dr Nor'izah Ahmad said the objective of the two-day training was to expose its staff members and students on the importance of managing social media platforms to enhance the university's branding.
"This is the first time UniMAP has organised such a programme as we acknowledge the effectiveness of social media platforms in disseminating information.
"During the course, we also train the students on how to use social media platforms wisely," she said.
