Cops collect Rompin tour bus driver's urine, blood samples for tests but no arrest yet, say police

ROMPIN: The driver of a tour bus which landed on its side following an accident at Km126 of Jalan Kuantan-Segamat near Muadzam Shah here yesterday, killing four people, including the bus's second driver, has not been arrested.

Rompin police chief Deputy Superintendent Nor Azman Yusof said the 50-year-old driver's urine and blood samples had been taken for testing but the results are pending.

"No arrest was made. Police have recorded statements from several people, including the bus driver, and everyone had given their full cooperation.

"Investigations are ongoing. The accident is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by careless driving," he said in a text message to the media today.

Four people were killed in the 12.40am crash yesterday while 12 people are receiving treatment at five hospitals in Pahang, Johor and Melaka. The remaining 23 people, including the driver, have returned home.

The deceased were SK Jeram teachers namely Hasnatul Adilah Hassan, 48, and Dahlia Ahmad, 52, the school's operation assistant Hamzah Ahmad, 60, and the tour bus's second driver Hadi Asyraf Mad Idris, 29.

The tour bus, ferrying 39 people - two drivers and 37 passengers - was travelling to Terengganu from SK Jeram in Masjid Tanah, Melaka when it crashed into a trailer at the Bahau junction before it flipped over on its side on a slope.
