KUALA LUMPUR: The fate of the parents of autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin will be known tomorrow.
They will either be charged over their son's killing or be released by the police, depending on the investigation papers being finalised by the end of their remand.
Fahmi Abd Moin, a lawyer representing the couple, said the investigation papers would be referred to the prosecution division of the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC).
He said if the A-GC was not satisfied with the papers, they would return it to the police for further investigations.
"The suspect must then be released on police bail. If the prosecution finds there is strong evidence to charge any individual, the suspect will be brought to court.
"The charge can be made on the same day the remand ends or the next, depending on the A-GC's instructions," he said.
Fahmi said he could not meet his clients and had not received any information from the investigating officer.
"The last time I met the couple was at the Petaling Jaya magistrate's court, when they were remanded last Friday.
"We have requested to meet our clients, but there has been no response from the investigating officer, perhaps they need some space to investigate, so we understand," he said.
Fahmi said the couple's families were undeniably in a state of stress, but they had left their fate to the police investigation.
"Of course they are stressed when they are arrested. They are always waiting for the latest developments of the investigation.
"Therefore, we ask the public not to speculate and leave the matter to the police. The police are working hard to get justice for Zayn Rayyan," he said.
Yesterday, the police took Zayn Rayyan's mother to the location where his body was found.
It is believed that the visit was for the purpose of re-enacting the circumstances of Zayn Rayyan's disappearance until his body was found.
Last Friday, police obtained a remand extension for Zayn's parents to carry out further investigations into the case.
The couple, both 28 years old, were remanded under Section 302 of the Penal Code after they were arrested in Puncak Alam on May 31.
Zayn Rayyan, who had autism, was found dead in a stream near Idaman Apartments in Damansara Damai at 10pm on Dec 6 after being reported missing the day before.
