KUALA LUMPUR: National exponents did well to claim two gold, two silver and one bronze at the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) Senior World Championships which concluded in Patras, Greece, on Monday (June 10).
In the artistic categories, Yan Jia Chia defended her world title in the women's wai kru event, while Asyraf Danial Abdul Latif triumphed in the men's wai kru.
Myra Arina Roslan-Jezzevelle Myora Jerry also claimed silver in the women's mai muay duo competition.
In the under-23 women's combat categories, Damia Husna Azian claimed silver in the under-48kg class.
Nur Amisha Azrilrizal, however, was unable to defend her gold in the under-51kg class and settled for bronze this time.
Malaysia Muaythai Association president Datuk Shahnaz Azmi said he was satisfied with the squad's performances.
"We used this platform to help provide competitive exposure to our exponents and prepare them for next year's Thailand Sea Games," said Shahnaz today.
"We did not send team captain Rifdean Masdor this time as he is injured and is also preparing to fight in the ONE Championship."
Malaysia sent eight exponents and four officials, led by national coach Cyrille Dhillon Tahing, to Greece.
Rifdean and teammate Nor Iman Aliff are expected to compete in the ONE Championship series next month.
