KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected to hit nine states besides Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 6pm today.
Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in addition to Melaka, the weather in certain districts of Perak such as Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Kampar, Batang Padang, and Muallim are also predicted to be stormy.
Meanwhile, some Terengganu districts such as Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman also face similar weather conditions.
Whereas in Pahang, similar weather conditions are expected to occur in Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Kuantan, and Rompin as well as in Selangor (Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, and Sepang), Negri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, and Rembau) and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, and Kluang).
"In Sarawak, areas affected include Sibu and Bintulu (Tatau), while in Sabah, it includes the inland areas (Nabawan), West Coast (Ranau), Tawau, Sandakan (Telupid and Beluran), and Kudat (Kota Marudu).
"A warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres (mm) per hour, which is expected to last for more than an hour.
"A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance," said MetMalaysia.
