Police arrest 9 protesters in KK without documents

KOTA KINABALU: Police have detained nine individuals without identification documents, believed to have participated in the #KamiMahuAirSabah rally this afternoon.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda confirmed that all the individuals were detained after they arrived at the assembly location.

"As they were leaving in a vehicle, the police conducted an inspection of the van they were in and found that nine individuals did not possess any documents.

"All of them have been taken to the police station and are still in the process of documentation," he said when contacted today.

The assembly, which began with a march from the front of the University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) campus, was attended by about 80 participants consisting of students, community representatives, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Meanwhile, Kasim said his team will open an investigation file under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 against the assembly group.

"We will also refer to the public prosecutor for further action," he said.

Currently, several assembly participants are still gathered in front of Menara Kinabalu under police supervision.
