Traffic on highways under control despite accidents

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow on major highways are still under control today despite several accidents.

A spokesperson from Projek Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) said three accidents were reported due to rain and other factors, but traffic was still moving at the sites.

"A few accidents happened, one at Km44.5 of the Elite highway, northbound from Nilai to Bandar Serenia, but did not cause any congestion.

" A car had skidded off the road due to rainy weather near the emergency lane," he said.

Another accident happened at Km334.3 of the southbound carriageway of the North-South Expressway between Tapah and Bidor in Perak, causing the left lane to be blocked.

"The accident involved a lorry and we haven't received the details of the accident yet. The traffic on that route is slow at the moment but moveable," said the spokesperson.

This was followed by one more accident at Km189.9 of the southbound carriageway of the North-South Expressway between Ayer Keroh and Jasin in Melaka.

"But no lanes were blocked in this incident," he said.

Slow traffic northbound was also reported from Gopeng to Simpang Pulai.

The PLUS spokesman said two "Smartlanes" had been opened at Km259.6 to Km263.1 northbound from Port Dickson to Seremban, and Km194.5 to Km184.0 southbound from Ayer Keroh to Jasin.

"The traffic is under control there and light vehicles are advised to use the Smartlanes," he added.
