KOTA KINABALU: The Amanita Motorcycle Patrol is an initiative by the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters to reach out to women in the community.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda said the presence of female officers would allow women to feel safer.

He said this initiative would strengthen police's efforts to prevent crime, especially in high-traffic areas.

"As a start, we will deploy the Amanita patrol from Imago Shopping Mall to Jesselton Mall.

"This covers key areas like Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, Anjung Kinabalu and Jalan Gaya."

He said this after officiating the launch of the Amanita Motorcycle Patrol at the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters today.

Kasim said the initiative could help women feel more comfortable to approach female police officers.

"This effort may be expanded, depending on the availability of our female police officers.

"Currently, we have three female motorcycle officers focusing on operations on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays."
