Bangladeshi man, stepson killed in Jerantut m-cycle crash while avoiding pothole

JERANTUT: A Bangladeshi national and his stepson were killed this morning in a motorcycle accident on Km6 of Jalan Kampung Pulau Mansok-Jerantut here today.

Sawmill worker Mohammad Adam, 39, and his stepson Muhamad Faiq Aqwa Abdullah, 9, were en route to school when Adam attempted to avoid a pothole and collided with an oncoming car in the opposite lane.

District police chief Superintendent Zukri Muhammad said the 6.30am accident involved Adam's Honda motorcycle and a Perodua Axia driven by a 41-year-old woman, who was travelling with her 5-year-old son.

"Adam was riding his motorcycle towards SK Perian inJerantut Feri, while the Axia was on the opposite lane, heading towards Batu Embun. Investigations revealed that Adam had attempted to avoid a pothole on the left side of the road and veered his machine into the opposite lane.

"The motorcycle crashed into the oncoming Axia before the car plunged down a slope and landed among some bushes. The motorcyclist and pillion rider were killed at the scene, while the duo in the car suffered light injuries," he said in a statement yesterday.

Zukri said the bodies were taken to Jerantut Hospital for post-mortem and police will record a statement from the car driver to facilitate investigations.

He said the case was investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said six firefighters from the Jerantut fire station were dispatched to the scene after they received a distress call at 6.57am.

He said the firefighters used rescue tools to extricate the Axia driver before she was handed to the medical team.
