KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is confident of generating around RM13 billion in export and investment through its participation in the World Expo 2025 which will be held in Osaka next year.
Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said an estimated 28.2 million visitors were expected to attend the Expo.
"Leveraging on this sizable audience, I am optimistic that we can generate around RM13 billion worth of potential export and investment from Malaysia's participation at
the Expo," he said in his speech during the launch at Menara Miti today.
He said Miti felt proud and privileged to have been tasked to spearhead Malaysia's participation at the Expo.
"Malaysia's pavilion at the Expo will showcase our advancements and aspirations in sustainable agriculture, energy transition, smart living, advanced manufacturing, environmental management, and green tourism.
"We want to show how Malaysia addresses global challenges innovatively to contribute to our planet's well- being and a more sustainable, harmonious and equitable future for mankind.
"At our pavilion, there will be a series of on-site themed weeks, exhibitions, and dialogues that will serve as a catalyst for positive change," he said.
He added that that they wanted to forge partnerships towards a more sustainable and equitable world, supported by key polices with sustainability at its core, such as the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, National Energy Transition Roadmap, and the National ESG Industry Framework (i-ESG).
"Today, we are nine months and 24 days away from the grand opening of this world expo. Thus far, 161 countries and nine international organisations have confirmed their participation," he said.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof who launched the event said the World Expo 2025 was a global stage where nations can showcase their respective ideas, innovations, and aspirations for a more dynamic and better future.
"Malaysia in aligning with Expo 2025 is adding our own unique thread to this showcase tapestry, a thread woven from the rich fabric of our diverse culture and
heritage.
"Malaysia's narrative is a story of a nation where people of different ethnicities, religions and backgrounds live together in harmony.
"It is a story of unity in diversity, a testament to our ability to find strength in our
differences," he said adding that it was something they were proud to share with the world under the theme "Weaving a Future in Harmony."
Fadillah who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister said 2025 was a significant year for Malaysia as they will also assume the role of the Asean Chair.
"I believe our message for greater
unity and prosperity as an Asean Family, can also be amplified through
Malaysia's participation at Expo 2025," he said.
