PWD to replace bridge following sinkhole accident that killed lorry driver

KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Department has handed over the investigation into the exact cause of the accident which killed a lorry driver at Km73 of Jalan Kuantan-Segamat to the relevant authorities.

In a statement, the department said, they will also replace the bridge permanently at the scene.

"PWD is in the process of procuring permanent bridge replacement works at the location.

"Therefore, the department urges all road users on this route to be more cautious and to obey the signage and speed limits that have been set for everyone's safety," the statement read.

It added that additional initiatives, such as installing speed bumps to reduce vehicle speeds and setting up solar lights around the detour route to improve lighting and safety, especially at night, are being taken.

Previously, it was reported that a lorry driver was killed after crashing his vehicle into a sinkhole, which was cordoned off with plastic barriers, at Km73 of Jalan Kuantan-Segamat yesterday.

Lorry driver Muhammad Farhan Dagang, 29, succumbed to his injuries on the spot in the 8.55pm mishap.
