Viral 'giant' speedbump not in Kuantan, says city council

KUANTAN: An image of a speed bump of extraordinary size, which has caused an uproar on social media since yesterday, is not located in a residential area here.

Kuantan City Council's (MBK) corporate and public communications section head Norkamawati Kamal clarified MBK had conducted their own investigations following reports of the image allegedly from here.

"We have conducted checks at several areas and the speed bump was not installed in Kuantan," she said when contacted today.

It is learnt that the 'do it yourself' speed breaker was not installed in any of the districts in Pahang and the image was captured in another state.

The image which was shared on Warga Kuantan OFFICIAL Facebook page had left netizens worried as it appears to not meet the standard height, width, and slope which could damage vehicles.

Some warned that the speed bump could lead to fatal incidents or accidents especially involving motorcyclists, and there were those who claimed that it might have been built by an irked resident who was disturbed by noisy vehicles speeding in front of his or her house.

In 2021, a man in Besut, Terengganu made headlines when he installed 11 speed bumps next to his house in Jertih before later removing them after being told to by authorities.

The man, who spent about RM1,000 to install the speed bumps claimed that he was often disturbed by the noisy vehicles travelling along the stretch, prompting him to take matters into his own hands.
