IPOH: The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) is on high alert following two fatal tiger attacks in Perak and Kelantan, believed to involve the same animal.
Perak Perhilitan director, Yusoff Shariff, said this suspicion is based on the proximity of the incidents, which occurred only four kilometres apart along the East-West Highway (JRTB) between Gerik and Jeli, within a short time frame.
"Yes, the distance between the two locations is less than four kilometres.
"We also suspect it was the same tiger, even though today's incident involving the Myanmar national happened on the Kelantan side of the border," he said when contacted today.
Following suspicions that the same tiger is responsible for both incidents, Perak Perhilitan is now cooperating with Kelantan Perhilitan to capture the tiger, including using traps.
"Yes, we have already set up traps. Perhilitan also advises users of the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway not to stop along the roadside for safety reasons," he added.
Earlier, it was reported that a Myanmar man was mauled to death by a tiger at his workers' quarters at Batu 18 on the Jeli-Gerik East-West Highway.
The incident occurred barely three days after another man was attacked by a tiger in Gerik, Perak.
On Tuesday, a local man, Adnan Ismail, 54, was reported dead following a tiger attack at workers' quarters in a forested area at KM 79.2 of the JRTB Gerik-Jeli near Bersia, Gerik.
