RAWANG: The Immigration Department detained 29 factory workers from Nepal and Bangladesh during an operation carried out at a factory warehouse at Kundang here.
Its enforcement division director Basri Othman said they raided the factory at 11am today (June 24).
"A total of 66 Immigration Department personnel, 11 Labour Department personnel and eight Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission personnel were involved in the raid.
"We gathered intelligence and monitored the factory for a week following a public tip-off about foreigners working here," he said at the scene.
"We checked 128 individuals and detained 29 of them for various offences under the Immigration Act."
The Labour Department's enforcement and Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants unit chief Abdul Kadir Muhamad said the employer had set up accommodations for the workers here which were not declared with the department.
"Six of the workers were staying at accommodations set up by their employer. We will open investigations under the Employees' Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodations and Amenities Act 1990."
Those detained were brought to the Immigration Department headquarters in Putrajaya for further action.
