KUALA LUMPUR: A security guard has been given a stern warning by police after a video of him allegedly throwing a kitten into a drain went viral.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sharulnizam Jaafar said in a statement the case had been referred to the Veterinary Department for further action.
This incident that was uploaded on social media sparked outrage among animal lovers and the public.
"On Saturday, at approximately 9pm, police detected a video lasting one minute and 56 seconds uploaded on TikTok, showing a kitten being thrown into a drain by a guard in Petaling Jaya."
Shahrulnizam said police also received a report from a 52-year-old woman last Tuesday.
"The complainant said she saw a security guard throwing a kitten into a drain.
"She later requested assistance from the cleaning staff to retrieve the kitten and took it to a vet in Mutiara Damansara."
Shahrulnizam added that an investigation was conducted and the security guard was issued a stern warning.
