GEORGE TOWN: Barisan Nasional (BN) is intensifying efforts to secure support for Pakatan Harapan's candidate, Dr Joohari Ariffin, in the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election.
BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir affirmed its commitment to engage with voters, including fence-sitters, through extensive ground outreach.
"As part of our campaigning strategy, we will actively connect with the electorate, addressing any concerns that may arise. Our goal is to clarify issues and ensure transparency," he said.
He was met at the sideline of the dialogue session between the Higher Education Ministry, in which he is the minister, and the electrical and electronic industry partners here.
Zambry emphasised BN's strategic approach in reaching out and building rapport with the electorate, highlighting the importance of addressing voter concerns effectively.
Political analysts have noted that both PH and Perikatan Nasional (PN) stand equal chances of victory in the by-election.
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)'s Professor Datuk Dr Sivamurugan Pandian said the outcome of this election would mainly focus on the fence sitters (if they come out to vote) and Umno supporters, who cast their votes for PN in the last state election. The Sungai Bakap by-election will see a straight fight between Joohari and PN's Abidin Ismail.
Polling has been fixed for July 6.
Zambry also dismissed any notions of BN component parties abstaining from supporting Joohari, affirming unanimous support and synergy within the coalition.
"Everyone has expressed full commitment to ensure Joohari's victory. We are witnessing strong momentum in the close cooperation between BN and PH, as well as within BN itself," he said, praising the dedicated efforts of the election machinery.
