640,136 active contributors under SKSPS

KUALA LUMPUR: Since its inception in 2017 until last year, a total of 992,164 people have contributed to the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS), according to the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) statistics.

In a parliamentary reply yesterday, the Human Resources Ministry said out of this total, 640,136 individuals remained active contributors as of January to June this year.

The ministry said this in response to Wan Razali Wan Nor (PN-Kuantan) who asked about the number of contributors to SKSPS since its inception.

"The ministry and Perkeso have always been steadfast in their efforts to ensure that self-employed individuals, including those in rural areas, are protected under the SKSPS."

The ministry said among the initiatives implemented by the ministry and Perkeso include the implementation of the community leader programme and the Seranta programme through Perkeso offices nationwide, with a total of 1,567 programmes having been implemented from January to June 7.

Others include strategic partnerships with the National Film Development Corporation (Finas), Grab Malaysia and the Transport Ministry.

The implementation of the Self-Employment Scheme (SPS) Contribution Match initiative under the 2024 Budget, which included SPS Matching Contribution and SPS Madani.

"Until June 7, a total of 372,441 self-employed individuals (OBS) have contributed through this initiative, with the government providing incentives amounting to RM80.33 million."
