Water supply cut off for 2,000 Lily & Jasmine apartment residents due to unpaid RM1.4 million bills [WATCH]

JOHOR BARU: Some 2,000 residents of Lily & Jasmine Apartments in Taman Tampoi Indah have been stranded without water for the past two days.

This occurred after the property management allegedly failed to settle outstanding water bills totaling RM1.4 million.

K. Thanalatchumy, 40, a resident of Block B in Lily Apartment where she lives with her family of four, expressed frustration over the situation. The complex, which includes Jasmine Apartment, comprises 480 units.

"Employees from Syarikat Air Johor (SAJ) cut off the water supply yesterday due to the management's inability to pay the accumulated bills from past years," she said.

"More than 2,000 residents are currently affected by the water shortage."

Thanalatchumy, who has lived in the apartment she purchased 13 years ago, recounted that when residents confronted management, they were informed that "our bank accounts are almost empty."

She criticised the management's explanation that only 40 per cent of residents paid their monthly maintenance fee of RM160, which supposedly includes water bills. "I pay RM160 every month for maintenance, which should cover our water bills as well," she added.

Frustrated and clueless about the situation, residents are seeking intervention from their member of parliament or the state government to resolve the issue. They have also lodged a police report against the management for failing to notify them about the water cutoff.

Efforts by the New Straits Times to reach SAJ and Pulai MP Suhaizan Kayat were unsuccessful at press time.

The Lily & Jasmine Apartments, constructed in 2001, are four-storey walk-up leasehold medium-cost apartments located along Titiwangsa Utama in Taman Tampoi Indah.
