NIBONG TEBAL: Upgraded infrastructure, free tuition, eliminating poverty and a resolution to citizenship issues in Sungai Bakap are among Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin's manifesto promises for the state seat by-election.
Underpinning his "perPADUan" (unity) manifesto unveiled last night is the promise of fairness to constituents.
The manifesto comprises four pillars, with the first being "Prasarana & Progresif" (infrastructure and progress).
Under this pillar, he vows to ensure the completion of water and road infrastructure, including the Sungai Kerian water treatment plant, the Perak-Penang water project and a connecting road to Bander Tasek Mutiara.
He will push for an upgrade of the maternity and geriatric ward at Sungai Bakap Hospital, and establish a senior citizen activity centre.
He plans to turn Sungai Bakap into a micro-halal production hub.
The second pillar, "Akademik & Anak Muda" (education and youth), includes plans to provide free tuition for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia students and establish a People's Tuition Centre.
He wants to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics; technical and vocational education and training; and artificial intelligence programmes to Sungai Bakap.
He will push for more sporting facilities and the upgrading of facilities.
For youths who have graduated, efforts to boost job placement will be rolled out.
The "Damai & Dedikasi" (peace and dedication) pillar touches on Joo-hari's plans to strengthen harmony and the familial institution through inclusive initiatives.
This includes poverty eradication, an Islamic taska and a Unity taska, resolving citizenship issues, supporting mosque and surau activities and the conservation of non-Muslim houses of worship.
The final pillar, "Untuk Semua" (for all), refers to his commitment to giving constituents, regardless of race, religion or political inclination, a fair and equal treatment. He wants to ensure no one is left behind.
Present at the launch of the manifesto were PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
In next Sunday's by-election, Joohari will take on Perikatan Nasional's Abidin Ismail.
The by-election is being held following the death of assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff from Pas.
