[UPDATED] Johor police investigate Facebook post linking TMJ to corruption allegation

JOHOR BARU: Investigations are underway on the Facebook page "Kelab Penyokong Pas Malaysia" to identify the individuals behind seditious posts implicating the Johor Regent in an alleged corruption scandal.

Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar said that several reports had been filed against the football fan club's Facebook administrator.

The controversial post, deemed seditious, alleged that Tunku Mahkota Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim called for action against those involved in a purported corruption scandal.

Kumar emphasised the importance of using social media responsibly and warned against spreading illegal content.

The post in question, dated Jan 28, 2023, claimed that the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Anti-Money Laundering director, Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin, requested a RM20 million bribe from Qatar Holdings.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for actions with seditious tendencies, including uttering, printing, publishing, or importing seditious materials. It is also being examined under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which pertains to disseminating content considered obscene, indecent, false, menacing, or offensive with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass.

Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi previously condemned those spreading defamatory content on social media, describing their actions as irresponsible, disrespectful, and offensive.
