KUALA LUMPUR: A DAP lawmaker related his experience of having his audience at a dinner banquet cheering when he announced that Perikatan Nasional won the Sungai Bakap by-election.
Kepong member of parliament Lim Lip Eng, who attended a banquet last night, said there was cheers of approval from the floor when he relayed the news about PN retaining the state seat a the event.
"Tonight (Last night) at a banquet with a few thousand people, I announced the Sungai Bakap by-election results and the crowd clapped," he said in the post on X.
Lim's post was also accompanied by a sad face symbol.
Following this, several individuals in the comment section urged Lim's party, DAP, to consider such the reaction as a wake-up call.
A user Colin Charles commented: "Consider this a signal, rather than the noise you may write it off as."
Another user Thaneindra Naidru said: "Do you think non-Malays will always vote for PH (Pakatan Harapan)? They can boycott if the government is not performing."
Meanwhile, Lim later told portal Malaysiakini that PH's defeat in the Sungai Bakap by-election was a valuable lesson from the voters.
He also said the situation has called for some reflection.
The by-election yesterday saw PN's Abidin Ismail retaining the seat for PN with 14,489 votes defeating PH's Dr Joohari Ariffin who gained 10,222 votes.
Abidin also led with a majority of 4,267, a higher majority compared with the state elections last August.
