Man trapped between rocks in Jeli river rescued after four-hour ordeal

JELI: Rescuers took more than four hours to free a man who was trapped in between rocks on a river bed here.

The man faced a harrowing moment when his left leg got trapped between river rocks while attempting to cast a fishing net in the Hulu Balah River, Kampung Kuala Balah.

In the incident which occurred at noon yesterday, the victim, Mohd Hulul Izmi Mohd Kamil, 31, along with three other friends, had been camping in the area since Saturday.

Mohd Hulul's friends tried to help free him but failed, prompting them to seek assistance from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

Jeli Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Mohd Adni Ibrahim said they received an emergency call at around 2.11 pm.

"The journey to the location was quite far and the camping place was situated in a remote area. Upon arrival, we found the victim in pain due to his leg being trapped between the river rocks.

"Ten firemen used special equipment to free the victim, with additional assistance from villagers and police officers present at the scene.

"Around 6.40 pm, the victim's trapped leg was successfully freed," he said when contacted today.

Mohd Adni said the victim was taken to the Kuala Balah Health Clinic for further treatment.
