Mum accepts Muhammad Akil Syauqi's death as fate [WATCH]

GEORGE TOWN: Factory worker Nurain Hasnorizal, 25, has accepted her 3-year-old son Muhammad Akil Syauqi Abdul Rahman's death as fate.

Akil Syauqi died at Penang Hospital here at 8.30am today, three days after he was admitted in critical condition after ingesting snacks laced with rat poison.

Akil Syauqi's younger brother, 2-year-old Muhammad Luth Syauqi, is still in a coma.

Met at the Forensic Department of Penang Hospital here this afternoon, Nurain said although she had hoped that her son would recover, it was not meant to be.

"Doctors had told me that there was no reaction from him.

"His condition took a turn for the worse last night and doctors had asked us to prepare for anything.

"I was with him the whole time and recited 'yasin' until this morning when he passed away. I accept his death as fate, although it pains me."

Nurain said she hoped her youngest son, Luth Syauqi, would recover.

"Both the brothers are close.

"I can't imagine how it will be for Luth Syauqi when he finds out that his brother is gone," she said, adding that she was waiting for feedback from doctors on his condition.

Asked if there were any changes to Akil Syauqi's behaviour prior to the incident, Nurain said he was 'manja'.

"Every time I left for work, he would cry and want to follow me.

"The last time (prior to the incident), he did not cry. He waved and said his goodbye while holding on to his brother," she said.

Nurain said her neighbour's mother called her about 10pm yesterday to apologise for the incident, saying that her child had put the poison in the snacks that are meant for a monkey trap in their orchard.

"I told her it was okay as things had already happened and that we just hope for the best.

"What else can I do? We did not talk much. Even I missed several calls my mum made to me."

It was reported that the two brothers were rushed to the hospital after eating snacks containing rat poison near their home at Kampung Banggol Berangan in Labu Besar, Kulim, Kedah, on Sunday.

The incident came to light after Nurain noticed her youngest son having a seizure shortly after he returned home with his brother from playing outside.

She rushed to check on his brother and was shocked to find that he too was in a similar condition and frothing at the mouth.
