Muhammad Luth Syauqi shed tears since yesterday, says mum

GEORGE TOWN: Two-year-old Muhammad Luth Syauqi Abdul Rahman, the latest victim who died after eating snacks laced with rat poison on Monday, shed tears when his mother spoke to him yesterday.

Factory worker Nurain Hasnorizal, 25, said although her son did not respond to treatment, she saw tears coming out of his eyes when she whispered in his ear.

"I told him I will accept it if he wants to follow his brother.

"I told him to go and play with his brother on the other side and that they will be close siblings here and thereafter," she said when met at the Forensic Department of the Penang Hospital this afternoon.

Muhammad Luth Syauqi died at 1.24pm today, two days after his three-year-old brother Muhammad Akil Syauqi Abdul Rahman died on Wednesday.

Both boys were in critical condition at the Penang Hospital here after eating snacks that had been laced with rat poison on Monday.

Nurain said, since yesterday, doctors had asked her to prepare for the worst after her son did not respond to treatment.

She said doctors also told her there was no response from her son's brain before plugging off the oxygen from him earlier today.

"Of course, I am very sad. I lost not one but two sons. But I am grateful that my family is here to support me," she added.

It was reported that the two brothers were rushed to the hospital after eating snacks containing rat poison near their home at Kampung Banggol Berangan in Labu Besar, Kulim, Kedah, on Sunday.

The incident came to light after Nurain noticed her youngest son having a seizure shortly after he returned home with his brother from playing outside.

She rushed to check on his brother and was shocked to find that he too was in a similar condition and frothing at the mouth.
