Botched overtaking by motorcyclist results in three-vehicle collision

TAWAU: A three-vehicle accident on Jalan Bukit Gemok here yesterday morning was triggered by a 19-year-old motorcyclist's failed attempt at overtaking, said district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin.

In the incident, which occurred at 6.40am, a 42-year-old man from Taman Ria Heights was driving a Perodua Myvi towards SK Bombalai.

At the same time, a male student, 19, from Tanjung Batu, was riding his Yamaha YZF-R15 motorcycle towards SMK Abaka.

"The teenager attempted to overtake the vehicle ahead of him but collided with an oncoming Isuzu Dmax, driven by a 46-year-old woman," Jasmin said in a statement.

The collision caused the motorcyclist to veer left, hitting the Myvi's front end, and caused the Dmax to lose control and crash into the Myvi.

"All three individuals involved in the accident received outpatient treatment at Tawau Hospital. The vehicles sustained damage to their front ends."
