Nenggiri by-election: MACC to open two ops rooms to receive complaints, info

KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will open two operations rooms for the public to channel information and lodge complaints regarding any corruption or abuse of power during the upcoming Nenggiri by-election.

State MACC director Rosli Husain said the operations rooms would be opened at the Kelantan MACC headquarters in Kota Baru and its branch in Gua Musang.

He said operations at the rooms would begin on Aug 3, which has been set as nomination day for the by-election.

"The operations room in Kota Baru will be opened 24 hours a day while the one in Gua Musang will operate only during office hours.

"We will station two officers at each room and they will work three shifts in a day," he told reporters after attending the "MACC with Politicians" programme here today.

Also present were Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nassaruddin Daud and State Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah.

Rosli said there were 33 state MACC officers who would be on duty during the by-election.

He reminded all candidates and political parties contesting in the Nenggiri by-election to refrain from engaging in activities that could violate election laws and regulations under the Election Offences Act 1954 and MACC Act 2009.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Aug 17 as polling day for the Nenggiri by-election, with early voting scheduled for Aug 13.

The by-election is being held after its incumbent, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, had his membership in Bersatu terminated.

Under the Kelantan Constitution, a seat is considered vacant if the assemblyman has his party membership terminated.
