Singaporean tourist badly injured in fall while hiking Mt Kinabalu

RANAU: A Singaporean tourist was seriously injured after slipping at Km8.3 of the Summit Trail while descending Mount Kinabalu this morning.

The 41-year-old woman fractured her ankle in the 8am incident.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.06am.

He said a rescue team was immediately despatched to the scene,

"The operation was also assisted by the Sabah Parks Search and Rescue team and the Mountain Search and Rescue Team (Mosar).

"Upon arrival at the location, the victim was found to have a fractured left ankle based on the deformity observed," he said when contacted.

Riki Mohan added that the Mosar team provided immediate assistance and initial treatment to stabilise the victim's condition.

The victim was then carried down to Timpohon Gate using a Robinson stretcher.
